I can see why this phrase resonates. It offers a reframe, and sometimes that matters.
I do not always agree with how simply Mel Robbins presents complex human behaviour, because healing is rarely that linear. Still, I can appreciate the intention behind the message.
A reframe can be helpful, but not when it is taken out of context because when someone is overwhelmed, anxious, or activated, a new thought may not land as support. It can land as pressure. The nervous system often needs safety before the mind can take in a different perspective.
That is the nuance.

We live in a world that loves “good vibes only.”
But not every uncomfortable emotion is bad.
Some feelings are not here to harm you.
They are here to tell you something.
Shame, regret, envy, anxiety.
They can feel ugly, loud, and unwelcome.
But sometimes they are messengers, pointing toward a need, a wound, a value, or a boundary.
Maybe this is part of what it means to sit with it.
Not to drown in it.
Not to judge it.
But to stay with yourself long enough to get curious before you move to the next step.
Being comfortable with the uncomfortable is not weakness.
It is emotional maturity.
It is self-trust.
It is learning that even hard feelings can have something to teach.

Sometimes the missing piece isn’t willpower at all—it’s physical foundations; sleep, nourishment, movement, medical support or hope - a future you can imagine, even if it’s small. Those are resilience builders too.

This quote can be comforting, but it can also feel hard when you’re in the middle of loss, disappointment, or change.

Because real life often looks like:

a closed door

a tender season

uncertainty

waiting

healing

then clarity

If you’re in the in-between right now, you’re not doing it wrong.You’re not behind.You’re allowed to move through this gently.

A gentler reframe:When one door closes, I can give myself permission to grieve, pause, and trust that clarity can come in time.

And if your body is on high alert, that makes sense.

This quote isn’t about “staying positive.”
It’s about building the capacity to stay with what’s hard—without spiralling, numbing, or shutting down.

That’s distress tolerance:
skills that help you ride the wave of emotion without avoiding it and without making it worse.

In therapy, we work on expanding your window of tolerance—so stress can show up and you can still breathe, think, choose, and stay connected to what matters. Over time, your nervous system learns: I can feel this… and I can handle it.

Resilience isn’t waiting for the storm to end.

Not pregnant.
Not loss.
Just… waiting.

but everything still hurts.

even when you’re still functioning on the outside.

Some days aren’t meant to be understood — they’re meant to be contained.

If today took more than it gave, you don’t need to fix it, reframe it, or squeeze meaning out of it before bed.
Your nervous system needs one clear message first: you’re safe now.

Name the cost.
Close the day on purpose.
Choose regulation over resolution.

Meaning can wait. Rest can’t.

Save this for the nights your body is louder than your thoughts.

Anxiety doesn’t respond to logic first.
It responds to safety.

That’s why the order matters.

The 4 R’s when anxiety shows up:

🟢 Regulate — calm the body first
Slow your breath. Ground your senses. Reduce activation.
(No nervous system = no reasoning.)

🟢 Relate — meet yourself with compassion
“Of course this showed up.”
Validation tells the brain you’re not under threat.

🟢 Reason — only if needed
Gently reality-check once your body is settled enough to listen.

🟢 Reframe — softly, not forcefully
Thoughts are information, not danger signals.
Reframing works after safety is restored.

When we skip regulation, reassurance often backfires.

✨ You don’t need to convince your body it’s safe.
You need to show it.

In a world that can feel divided, harsh, or heavy, love is still the force that softens edges, repairs what’s broken, and reminds us of our shared humanity.
Love doesn’t mean pretending everything is okay.
It means choosing compassion anyway.
Choosing connection over distance.
Choosing kindness when it would be easier to shut down.

Love is quiet, steady, and often invisible — but it changes everything it touches.

I specialize in infertility, perinatal, and postpartum counselling — and I also reserve a few spots to work extensively with ADHD. These areas don’t need to be related for both to matter. Sometimes they overlap. Sometimes they don’t.

My ADHD work is informed by formal training and lived experience, with a strong focus on regulation, task initiation, and real-world functioning — not just insight.

That’s why strategies like body doubling can be so helpful. For some ADHD clients, adding body doubling as an enhancement to psychotherapy supports focus, reduces overwhelm, and improves follow-through.
